Northumbrian Daily Prayer

A regular cycle of daily prayer constitutes the essential rhythm of life around which other activities can take their proper place. The Northumbrian Community ( a community that focuses on a Celtic expression of the faith—as do we) practices the The Daily Office—morning, midday and evening prayer—as a central part of their daily life. They have created prayers for each part of the day. You can navigate to those prayers through this link. The St Brendan community has also created prayers for various hours of the day. You can go to those prayers from this page (see to the right or at the bottom).

When companions in the community meet together, saying (praying) the daily office, also called praying the hours, can be a routine part of the meeting. Individuals and families can also use these prayers in their homes or at work as part of daily life.

The Daily Office can be said anywhere, but, for morning and evening prayer, it is recommended that a quiet place, free from interruptions, is chosen. Our lives are usually full of noise, and morning and evening tend to offer the best opportunities to experience real silence.

Morning, midday or evening prayer, and the complines (end of the day prayers) for the Northumbian community and the St Brendan versions can be accessed from the Related links to the right on this page. You can also get the Northumbrian Versions in their prayer books entitled, Celtic Daily Prayer Book 1: The Journey Begins and Celtic Daily Prayer Book 2: Farther Up and Farther In.

Celtic Daily Prayer is also available as an interactive ebook available for a variety of devices. It can be purchased from AmazoniTunesgoogleplay and kobo books. The ebook has app-like features and includes the daily prayer and compline liturgies, meditations, and daily scripture readings for each day
